Start of vocational training intermediate course “operation of Xekaman 3 hydroelectric power plant”

On May 11, 2009, at the Electric Power College of Central Vietnam (EPC) in Hoi An Citty, Quang Nam Province, Xekaman 3 Power Company Limited (XKPC) in co-ordination with EPC held the Opening ceremony of vocational training intermediate course “Operation of hydroelectric power plant” (Course K22TnTĐ2)

The Ceremony was attended by Mr. Pham Van Viet - Deputy General Director of Viet-Lao Power Joint Stock Company (VLPC) and member of BOD of XKPC, Mr. Le Phuoc Xinh - Deputy Director of XKPC, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ban - Principal of EPC and its teachers and 35 students of the course. After finishing the 18-month training course, the students will be staff directly operating Xekaman 3 hydroelectric power plant.

XKPC, which is wholly owned by VLPC during construction period, is established to invest in construction of Xekaman 3 Hydropower Project in Dakcheung district, Sekong province, Lao PDR under the BOT form (Build – Operate - Transfer) with the period of 30 years. The Project has the installed capacity of 250 MW including 02 units, which was commenced on April 05, 2006, its river closing on December 20, 2007 and will generate the Unit 1 in early 2011. This is the first project in the Cooperation program on electric energy development between two Governments of Vietnam and Laos.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy General Director of VLPC Pham Van Viet requested the students to strictly observe the regulations of the EPC, show solidarity and mutual assistance, try to study, practice to complete successfully the course. The Company would create the best conditions for the students throughout the process of study with a view soon integrating professional staff of the Company after the course.

On behalf of the EPC, Principal Nguyen Xuan Ban gave a welcome speech to 35 students participating in the course and undertook to manage, educate and train the students to become qualified workers, who have ability and virtuous character to well operate Xekaman 3 hydroelectric power plant. The EPC also requested the Company to cooperate in managing the students according to the EPC’s curriculum agreed by the two parties.

This training course also marked the first cooperation between EPC and VLPC. Both parties expressed a desire that the course would be successful, which would be the basis for long-term cooperation process between the College and the Company in training of operation workers for such hydroelectric power plants invested by VLPC as Xekaman 1, Xekaman 4, Dak E Meule, which would generate power in turn after Xekaman 3.

On behalf of the students participating in the course, monitor Nguyen Tat Thang expressed their thanks to the Company and the College for the favourable conditions created for their participation in the course. The students also promised to give solidarity and mutual assistance, try to study, practice to complete successfully the course.
